One of the America’s retail giants in home improvement products and services, Home Depot, has bought Houston-based online blinds and shades retailer Blinds.com. No specific deals and terms were disclosed.

“We’re delighted to welcome the Blinds.com team into The Home Depot family,” shares Home Depot chairman and CEO Frank Blake.

Blinds.com’s appealing user experience, professional staff and huge knowledge base prompted Home Depot to acquire and form a merger with the company.

“The acquisition of Blinds.com positions us well for expansion in the quickly growing online window coverings market. In addition, their unique sales and service model is one we hope to learn from as we continue to create even better interconnected retail experiences for our customers,” Blake continues.

Blinds.com started as Laura’s Draperies in 1986. Founded by Jay Steinfield, current CEO of Blinds.com, it used to be a brick-and-mortar store selling blinds, shades, draperies and bedspreads among others. They’ve gone online upon the inception and rise of the World Wide Web back in the mid-90s. In 2004, Blinds.com was born. Since then, it has been one of the biggest players in selling blinds and shades around the world.

“We’re joining forces with The Home Depot because there is a huge opportunity to utilize each other’s strengths, take additional share in this category and move even faster toward our vision of making the design, purchase and installation of quality window coverings as easy and affordable as possible,” said Blinds.com founder and CEO Jay Steinfeld. “We will continue to build the Blinds.com brand and culture in our own unique way, and we believe The Home Depot is the best partner to help us do this over the long term.”

Blinds.com staff and management will remain along with its headquarters in Houston, Texas.

With its over 2,200 retail stores in North and Central America, Home Depot is one of the world’s largest home construction and improvement retailers. At present, it houses more than 300,000 employees spread across its branches in the continent. The company reported gross sales of $74.8 billion and earnings of $4.5 billion in 2012.
